Guy Gerber To Perform Live For First Time In Five Years As Webster Hall Reopens

The Israeli artist will debut an exciting new show, designed in collaboration with Andi Watson of Radiohead fame, for one night only on May 31st, making a welcome return to the days of his acclaimed live tours.

Guy Gerber is truly one of music’s contrarians, he was named as one of Resident Advisor’s top 10 live acts in the world for three consecutive years when he abruptly decided to stop playing live in 2014. A return to DJing led to his storied Wisdom Of The Glove residency at Ibiza’s Pacha and the subsequent launch of his renowned globetrotting RUMORS party, but fans have been clamoring for a new live show from Gerber for years.

Gerber gave a glimpse of what might be coming at an improvisational performance at the Hollywood Bowl in 2017. He appeared on stage at sunset surrounded by smoke and accompanied with multiple guitars, several synths and a keyboard-playing accomplice. That 45 minute set was full of brand new music that Gerber had been working toward for a new live show. Since that day Gerber has been developing the sound and aesthetic for his new show, a show that is finally ready to share.

This May, Gerber was invited to be part of the reopening of the iconic NYC live venue Webster Hall, in cohort with NYC’s Bäbel community, and as part of their 6th birthday celebration. He will grace the stage with multiple musicians, a collection of instruments, and a few surprises in true Gerber fashion.

For this newest rendition of his live performance, Guy teamed up with world-renowned stage & lighting designer Andi Watson, whose work with Radiohead for over 15 years have earned him a plethora of awards and even inspired Thom Yorke himself to pen a book about him. Concepted by Guy and brought to life by Andi, the new live show is at once a continuation and evolution of Gerber’s singular instrument-driven take on melancholic and melodic house music.

Gerber has always been a dance music outlier since his break out album Late Bloomers, and subsequent releases like Steady, Secret Encounters, Here Comes The Rain and last year’s smash What To Do and have repeatedly proven his unique musicality, and reinforced his own belief that he is more at home with a guitar than he is behind the decks.

After several years working on new live material, and with a new show concept and aesthetic to unveil, return of Guy Gerber live will be a New York night not to miss, and an exciting glimpse of what’s to come.

About Guy Gerber

Guy Gerber has always favored the road less traveled. The Israeli DJ thrives on confounding expectations. What other underground DJ could collaborate with one of hip-hops biggest moguls, Puff Daddy, or start a left-field night at one of Ibiza’s most commercial clubs, Pacha? What other producer blends the worlds of melancholy and euphoria so effortlessly, or turns in a breakup album as an official mix for a revered club brand? It’s these kind of contradictions that define Gerber’s compelling duality.

Before he was fiddling with drum machines and synths, Gerber was all about groups like Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine. These influences still echo clearly in his music today, whether it be his hypnotizing live performances or contemplative, moody productions. Over the course of four albums, Gerber has shown himself to be a singular artist. In 2007, he brought his debut album Late Bloomers to Sven Vath’s Cocoon, following that with 2009’s My Invisible Romance. In 2012 and 2013, he usurped the concept of a mix CD, delivering a Fabric album made up of 100% original new productions; then on Who’s Stalking Who creating an LP more akin to an extended composition than anything else.

As a performer, Guy Gerber is consistently rated one of the best touring acts in dance music, earning a top 10 live performer nod three years in a row for Resident Advisor. When DJing he’s known for extended sets, epitomized by a 12-hour performance at Burning Man in 2014. Gerber’s sets are never forgettable, and he has an unerring ability to disrupt expectations, whether it be confounding Ibiza VIPs with his 2013 Wisdom of the Glove residency at Pacha -- which even caught the New York Times’ attention -- or 12 months later going in a totally new direction with his clandestine free Ibiza beach party, Rumors. Even at more traditional club residencies like those he holds at Marquee, Sound, and Story, Gerber acts as the subversor, transforming the normative experience into something alive with mysticism and mystique.

On the label front, Gerber has helped curate and A&R some of underground music’s most intriguing talents. His label Supplement Facts hosted everyone from Chaim, to dOP, Guti and Kate Simko. In typical Gerber fashion, just as it was reaching its apex he put it on hold to launch a new imprint Rumors, a befitting title for the mischievously minded Gerber. The new project is off to a promising start, serving as home to Guy’s colossal collaboration with Dixon, “No Distance,” as well as his crossover album with Puff Daddy, 11:11, which proved one of 2014’s most startling and impressive LPs. As with Supplement Facts, Rumors reiterates Gerber’s attention to the visual aesthetic. Both labels have seen him collaborating with artists all over the globe -- most recently, visual trio WIFE at Art Basel in Miami.

What’s next for Guy Gerber? Like any good rumor, it’s sure to have tongues wagging.
